At present, there are three main types of DWDM technologies developed at home and abroad, which are based on AWG-Arrayed Waveguide Grating, dielectric film filter (TFF) and fiber grating (FBG) technology. AWG is a planar waveguide device, which is an arrayed waveguide grating fabricated on a chip substrate using PLC technology. Compared with FBG and TTF, AWG has the advantages of high integration, large number of channels, low insertion loss, and easy batch automated production.
Development of a multi-channel count AWG. The development of multi-channel AWG devices makes full use of the huge bandwidth of optical fibers, more effectively realizes the expansion of optical fiber communication systems, and meets people‘s growing communication needs.
The basic function of AWG is wavelength multiplexing/separation, which can realize wavelength multiplexing/demultiplexing, add/drop multiplexing, wavelength routing, etc. By combining with an optical switch, wavelength selection is possible. AWG can also be combined with multi-wavelength lasers to form a multi-wavelength light source.
