With the continuous growth of the communications industry, the bandwidth requirements for transmitting data lines are getting higher and higher, and the pressure on fiber optic transmission is increasing, the emergence of DWDM optical modules solves this problem.

What is DWDM optical module?

DWDM optical module belongs to a kind of WDM optical module, using DWDM technology, using different wavelengths to multiplex multiple optical signals into a single fiber to transmit data, the operation does not need to consume any power. These optical modules are designed for high-capacity, long-distance transmission with rates up to 10Gbps and operating distances up to 120km.

Classification of DWDM optical modules

The common DWDM optical modules are DWDM SFP, 10G DWDM SFP+, 25G DWDM SFP28, which are three major categories.

1)       DWDM SFP optical module

DWDM SFP optical module adopts DWDM technology and uses SFP package, DWDM SFP series optical module includes 44 optional channels, supporting 100Mbps to 2.67Gbps, widely used in 100Gigabit Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, 1G/2G Fibre Channel and synchronous optical network, working wavelength is 1528.77nm-1563.86nm. Each wavelength interval is 0.8nm, and the transmission distance can reach up to 80km to 120km through single-mode fiber.

2)       10G DWDM SFP+ optical module

10G DWDM SFP+ optical module adopts hot-swappable SFP+ package, supports the whole C-band, and the working temperature range is available for commercial grade (0-70) and industrial grade (-40-85), it complies with SFP28 MSA and 10G Ethernet standard, and the longest transmission distance can be 40km to 80km through single-mode fiber.

3)       25G DWDM SFP28 Optical Module

25G DWDM SFP28 optical module is mainly used to meet the demand of 25G Ethernet and 5G forward transmission service, the maximum rate is up to 25.78Gbps, the working wavelength is 1528.77nm-1563.86nm, each wavelength interval is 0.8nm,10km.

Advantages of DWDM optical module

DWDM optical module supports pluggable and tunable, with 40 common channels available, which greatly improves the efficiency of module usage. According to different needs, DWDM optical modules have different channel intervals such as 0.4nm, 0.8nm and 1.6nm, which can support long-distance transmission up to 100km, and can be an effective solution for line bandwidth expansion.
