Nowadays, optical modules are widely used and indispensable in the optical communication industry, but many people have doubts in their minds when using optical modules: how to make the modules operate efficiently and stably? For this reason, we summarized seven points of attention!

First, unplug the optical module action specification.
1, take the optical module, do not touch the gold finger part of the optical module, so as not to cause damage to the optical module.
2, insert the optical module, confirm the optical module puller is attached to the optical module light port and then inserted, if the optical module just removed, do not remove the light port dust plug directly into.

Second, take the optical module to hold gently
There are ceramic parts inside the optical module, so be careful when picking up the optical module, if you accidentally drop it or bump it, the optical module is not recommended to be used on the shelf again to avoid subsequent failure.

Third, optical module optical port can not be exposed for a long time
Optical module optical port can not be exposed for a long time, otherwise it will make the LD end face is contaminated, which may lead to the failure of the optical module, if not used for a long time, you need to wear a dust cover for protection. 

Fourth, the optical module to insert the jumper should pay attention to the direction
When inserting fiber optic patch cords into the optical module requires gentle action, inserted directly into the optical port, too hard or inserted obliquely, may damage the optical module.

Fifth, multimode optical modules can not be transmitted on single-mode fiber
If the multimode optical module in single-mode fiber transmission, the main impact is the transmission distance, the reason is that the attenuation of multimode fiber is too large.

Sixth, long-distance optical module​ for receiving optical power range requirements are strict
Transmission distance of more than 10km single-mode optical module in the transmission, the optical power at the receiving end can not exceed the saturation optical power value, otherwise the receiving device may be damaged. It can test the received short optical power before connection to determine whether it can be connected. If the optical power is too strong, consider using an appropriate attenuator to add additional attenuation to meet the connection requirements.

Seventh, long distance single-mode optical module can be transmitted on multimode fiber
10km single-mode optical module can be transmitted on multimode fiber, and the transmission distance is the same as the corresponding multimode optical module on multimode fiber, the main factor affecting the transmission distance is dispersion rather than attenuation.

According to the seven considerations summarized above, if the optical module is used correctly, the function of the optical module can be ensured and the failure caused by improper use can also be greatly reduced.
