Video of yaks carrying mobile communication equipment to a 5G base station in Everest has been heated up recently. This is an epitome of China‘s construction of 5G base station on Everest. On April 27, 5G technology was successfully used to conduct a real-time live broadcast of the Everest base camp at an altitude of 5,200 meters. It is reported that the world‘s highest 5G base station, the 6,500-meter base station on Mount Everest, will be opened soon, when 5G signals will cover the summit of the mountain.
At present, it has completed the opening of three 5G base stations at the 5,300-meter Everest base camp and the 5,800-meter transition camp. It was revealed that at the present 5,800-meter transition camp, the 5G network can reach a downward speed of 1.5Gbps and an upward speed of 180Mbps.
In an interview, Wang told the global times about the distribution of the sites: "ordinary tourists can reach the Rongbu temple at 5,100m, and then the Everest base camp at 5,200m above sea level. Beyond that are the 5,800m transition camp and the 6,500m forward camp, both of which will have base stations and broadband systems."
According to Wang, there are mainly two types of equipment set up on the mountain, one is the wireless transmission of 5G and 4G base stations, and the other is the 5G special line service, "equivalent to the wired network of the family." According to media reports, the 6,500-meter base station is the most challenging part of the "5G mount Everest" campaign. The plan is to build five China mobile 5G base stations in the form of an SA + NSA network at the 5,200m Everest base camp, the 5,800m transition camp and the 6,500m advance camp, while providing gigabit broadband and dedicated access.(HT6000 DWDM Optical Transmission System)
"The original plan was to open the 6,500m site on April 25, but due to bad weather, fiber optic transmission and power generation is still not enough." Wang said he expects to open all 5G sites on the entire mountain in the near future. This is not something that a single company can do on its own, it needs everyone to work together to achieve.
Asked about the future construction of base station will be at a higher altitude, Wang Bo said that the current solution is through the base stations set up in the 6500m summit, he personally think may not be in a higher place to build the base station: "in the first place in the limit of human, at an altitude of 6500m is a place where ordinary people can go to the top, there is a camp, itself has some of the team to stay before equipment, tents and related facilities, can be for people. Secondly, after 6,500m, there is camp C1, which is full of glaciers and basically not equipped for equipment installation.
