Global 5G users will exceed 2 billion in 2024

According to the latest data, there were 5.27 billion LTE users worldwide by the end of 2019. For all of 2019, more than 1 billion new LTE users were added globally, representing an annual growth rate of 24.4%. Currently, LTE users account for 57.7% of global mobile users.

By region, 67.1% of LTE users are in the Asia-pacific region, 11.7% in Europe, and 9.2% in North America, 6.9% in Latin America and the Caribbean, 2.7% in the Middle East and 2.4% in Africa.

LTE users will peak in 2022, accounting for a whopping 64.8 percent of global mobile users. Starting in 2023, LTE users will start to decline as the migration to 5G users begins.

In terms of 5G users, global 5G users reached at least 17.73 million by the end of 2019 (with the fourth quarter growing more than fourfold), accounting for 0.19 percent of global mobile users.

It is predicted that by the end of 2024, there will be 10.5 billion mobile users worldwide. By then, LTE users will account for 59.4%, 5G users 19.3%, W-CDMA users 13.4%, GSM users 7.5% and other users 0.4%.
